Thyroid nodules are extremely common — many are discovered by accident on a scan done for something else — and the large majority are benign. But "probably fine" isn't a plan. A proper evaluation tells you where you stand and what, if anything, needs to happen next.
We evaluate nodules methodically and explain the findings in plain language, so you leave with clarity instead of worry.
How nodules are evaluated
Evaluation typically starts with thyroid function labs and a dedicated thyroid ultrasound, which lets us assess a nodule's size and features. Based on standardized criteria, some nodules simply need periodic monitoring; others warrant a fine-needle biopsy — a quick office-based procedure — to examine cells directly. We coordinate every step and go over the results with you personally.
What happens after the evaluation
Most patients end up on a simple surveillance plan: a follow-up ultrasound at sensible intervals to confirm nothing is changing. If a nodule is overactive, causing symptoms, or biopsy results raise concern, we'll lay out next steps — including coordination with experienced surgeons when that's appropriate — and stay involved throughout.
