A continuous glucose monitor replaces finger sticks with a small sensor that reads your glucose around the clock and sends it to your phone. For most people it's a revelation: you finally see what food, stress, sleep, and exercise actually do to your numbers.

We prescribe CGMs, get you started, and — the part that matters most — help you turn the data into decisions.

Who benefits from a CGM

Anyone on insulin benefits from seeing where their glucose is heading, not just where it was at one moment. CGMs also help people with type 2 diabetes on other medications understand their patterns, catch overnight lows, and stay motivated by seeing progress. Coverage has expanded substantially in recent years — more patients qualify than a few years ago.

From data to decisions

A CGM produces a lot of numbers; the value is in reading them well. At visits we review your reports together — time in range, patterns after meals, overnight trends — and translate them into a small number of concrete changes. Paired with an insulin pump, CGM data can even drive automatic insulin adjustments.

Why patients choose Ohio Endocrinology

We're not generalists. Hormones and metabolism are all we do — and it shows in how visits feel.

Specialists, not generalists

Led by Dr. Vikram Kumar, MD, FACE — practicing endocrinology since 1993, Division Chief of Endocrinology at Fairview Hospital (Cleveland Clinic) and Chief of Medicine at University Hospital Elyria.

Answers at the visit

A1C tested in-house with results while you're in the room, plans adjusted the same day, and everything explained in plain language — no phone tag.

Common questions

Does a CGM hurt to wear?
Application is a quick press with a spring-loaded applicator — most people barely feel it — and sensors are comfortable enough to forget you’re wearing one.
Will insurance cover a CGM?
Coverage keeps expanding, especially for anyone using insulin. We know the criteria and handle the prescriptions and paperwork.
Can I see my readings on my phone?
Yes — current CGMs send readings to your smartphone, and you can share them with family and with our team for remote review.
Do I still need finger sticks?
Rarely — mostly just when a reading doesn’t match how you feel. Day to day, the sensor replaces routine finger sticks.
