An insulin pump can smooth out blood sugar, reduce injections to one site change every few days, and — paired with a CGM — automate a remarkable amount of diabetes management. The catch: results depend heavily on setup and follow-through.

We manage pump therapy end to end: choosing the right device, getting it approved, dialing in settings, and refining them at every visit.

Choosing and starting a pump

Today's pumps differ in real ways — tubing versus tubeless, automation features, CGM pairings, and insurance coverage. We'll help you pick the one that fits your life, handle the paperwork, and train you properly at the start so the first weeks feel manageable rather than overwhelming.

The fine-tuning that makes pumps work

A pump is only as good as its settings. Basal rates, carb ratios, correction factors, and automation targets all need periodic adjustment as your body and routine change. At follow-ups we review your data together and tune settings with you — that ongoing partnership is where pump therapy pays off.

Why patients choose Ohio Endocrinology

We're not generalists. Hormones and metabolism are all we do — and it shows in how visits feel.

Specialists, not generalists

Led by Dr. Vikram Kumar, MD, FACE — practicing endocrinology since 1993, Division Chief of Endocrinology at Fairview Hospital (Cleveland Clinic) and Chief of Medicine at University Hospital Elyria.

Answers at the visit

A1C tested in-house with results while you're in the room, plans adjusted the same day, and everything explained in plain language — no phone tag.

Common questions

Am I a candidate for an insulin pump?
Most people who take multiple daily insulin injections can benefit — type 1 or type 2. If you’re motivated to use the technology, we can almost always find a workable option.
Do pumps work with CGMs?
Yes — modern pump-CGM combinations can automatically adjust insulin in the background. It’s the closest thing yet to an artificial pancreas, and we set these systems up routinely.
Will insurance cover a pump?
Most plans cover pumps for people meeting criteria, though paperwork is involved. We handle the documentation and know the process well.
What if the pump isn’t for me?
Then we’ll say so, and build the best injection-based plan instead — possibly with a smart pen and CGM. The goal is the right tool for you, not a device for its own sake.
